Ranchi Women's College Campus

About Us

Founded in 1949, Ranchi Women’s College has carved out a niche for itself in the world of higher education for women in social sciences/humanities, sciences, and commerce. It is located in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. Jharkhand, created by bifurcation of Bihar, is socially and economically backward with a large tribal population. Despite its urban location, the college caters significantly to nearby tribal areas, reflected in its diverse student body.

The college is committed to holistic personality development, encouraging creativity and enhancing employment prospects for girls. It strives to nurture confidence and self-reliance among students, many of whom come from economically weaker sections of society.

Ranchi Women's College offers a wide range of academic programs: intermediate, undergraduate, postgraduate, vocational, and B.Ed. With an overall strength of about 10,000 students, nearly 23% belong to scheduled tribes/castes. Excluding intermediate students, there are around 7000 students enrolled—of which 9.2% are in postgraduate programs and 90.8% in undergraduate programs.

The college has earned NAAC accreditation for its pursuit of excellence. It blends traditional education with modern vocational training in emerging fields like biotechnology and IT. Students engage in projects, seminars, workshops, and collaborations with NGOs and visiting experts to enrich their learning.

Support from the Department of Forests led to the creation of a Herbal Park, and the Ministry of HRD granted ₹16 million for infrastructure development—highlighting the college's recognition at the national level.
